The golfing girls – back in the Algarve for The Masters

by Lady Golfer

We are so excited; we’ve arrived in Portugal for The Portugal Masters tournament, how wonderful is that? We shall now spend our first winter in the Algarve – Lord I hope the weather works well. At least it will be better than freezing ice, gales and lashing rain!

The golf

We’ve booked our tickets for The Masters and we can’t wait to see Padraig Harrington (we saw him in Dubai once) and José María Olazábal, the onetime Captain of the winning Ryder Cup team for Europe. Of course there’s the Italian contingent of Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari to keep an eye on as well. David Lynn will be trying to take the cup and become the first player ever to win for two consecutive years. And the two Ryder Cup “rookies” Dubuisson and Gallacher are out to prove themselves too. It’s going to be absolutely thrilling!

But let me tell you how we got here and what’s been happening.

Travel

After much mulling, getting quotations and working out costs, we decided we would return to the Algarve by car. Just one car this time, after all, our apartments are close to each other so sharing a car between the four of us shouldn’t be too difficult.

Entertainment Ferry Crossing

We could have got cheap flights of course, but when we weighed up the extra costs of suitcases (clothes for five months) and golf clubs with all that kit and caboodle, the flights weren’t so cheap. Then we had to take into consideration the cost to hire a car or take taxis everywhere, so we plumped for bringing our own car and enjoying a lovely boat trip into the bargain. Did you know you can get a cabin and entertainment “all in” on the ferry boats? It was just like a mini cruise!

The rentals

We’ve had the good fortune to rent out each apartment for most of the summer since we left at the end of April. Twenty two weeks until 26th September and we’ve each managed to get 18 of them booked, not bad going considering we missed Easter bookings this year. Let’s hope it continues like this.

We’ve been pleasantly surprised that both apartments are in excellent condition and only one cup had been broken (and replaced). The apartments look so clean and well cared for that we feel instantly at home.

Cataplana Restaurant Algarve

It’s almost October and still sunbathing weather and although Quarteira is busy enough, the beaches are relatively empty now. Our favourite restaurant served us a fabulous fish cataplana, so fresh and tasty (and the sparkling house wine went down well too). Apparently it’s almost hunting season in the Algarve and we can expect all types of game on the menus soon, that’s a treat we’re eagerly looking forward to.

Gotta run now, so many things to do and see, obviously we won’t be hanging around bored...
