Taking place from the 9th to 12th October 2014 at the fantastic Oceânico Victoria in Vilamoura, this leg of the European Tour promises to be exciting in the extreme. Vilamoura, famous for its golf courses and its marina, lies on the south coast of Portugal’s sun-drenched Algarve.
The Algarve plays host
When Portugal joined the European Tour as hosts in 2007 they were recognised and accepted for their outstanding golf courses and their infrastructure for tourism.
Vilamoura has a multitude of excellent hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars to cater for the thousands of visitors who will inevitably be arriving for the event. With all these superb amenities situated close to the Victoria golf course, the guests are in for a treat. Not only will the eyes of the worldwide press will be upon the golf but also on the accompanying facilities.
The course
Measuring 6,651 meters and covering 90 hectares, with a slope index of 129, the Victoria is a par 72, 18 holes course. Designed by Arnold Palmer, this is one of the most sophisticated golf courses in Europe. Encompassing and preserving the indigenous vegetation of olive, almond and carob trees, the deliberate planning ensures the conservation of the natural wetlands. The well considered placement of reservoirs for irrigation blends in with the overall environment.
Featuring wide, undulating fairways it would be easy to think it is a simple course to play, but beware, this is a championship playground and there are extensive water hazards and shrewdly placed bunkers to trap the unwary.
The facilities at the Oceânico Victoria are what you would expect of such a prestigious venue: the clubhouse is superb and features a golf shop, bar and restaurant. The grounds support a driving range, a putting green measuring 2,500m2, a buggy bar and valet services.

Matteo Manassero is hoping to become the first Italian winner of the Masters next month too.
