Statistics show an increase in foreign residents

Algarve Expat Chart PortugalAccording to the results of the 2011 Census for the Algarve, the region is home to over 52,000 foreign residents. That’s around 11.5% of the total Algarve population and an increase of approximately 5.5% over 10 years. The national statistics show that just 3.74% of the total population of Portugal are not natives of the country, so it’s clear that the Algarve is the main attraction.

If you’ve spent time in the Algarve, you’ll understand why people choose to make it their home. Buying a holiday retreat abroad is one thing, but upping sticks and relocating to another country is a big step to take. So, what are the main drivers? Why are more and more people heading for Portugal’s south coast?

Meravista recently interviewed a cross section of expats who moved to the Algarve to live and work. Here’s a snapshot of their comments on the region’s lifestyle. You can download and read the full article here.
