I was intrigued to be invited to the opening of a therapeutic clinic near Corotello in the hills above Faro. I used to be rather sceptical about alternative healing, but then something really strange happened to me. A few years ago I went out for dinner with family, I was in a lot of pain with my back, so I wasn’t enjoying the evening very much. Then suddenly the waitress stood behind me and put her hands close to my back, she didn’t touch me, she didn’t know me but she “felt” my pain. I was utterly amazed when a minute or so later - the pain vanished, I mean it was gone! I was shocked to say the least. That experience opened my eyes I can tell you.
The Reconnection
So here I was, going to see what this new holistic clinic could offer. Graça Virgilio is an acquaintance of mine and I had heard how she has helped pain sufferers in much the same way as that waitress had done for me. Healing Hands or Faith Healing, or whatever name you want to call it, fascinates me and it’s all due to my own unexpected experience. Graça explained The Reconnection to me, how each of us has a “force field” of specific frequencies emanating from our bodies and has the ability to use these frequencies for healing. Apparently everybody has an innate ability to heal, some are born with it and never lose it, and others are taught to discover it.
Detox with a difference
When I arrived at Horusisis Clinic, my friend Tanya had her feet in a footbath of clear bright water that was gradually turning brown. I asked what was happening and Graça explained that this was a technique to relieve the body of all toxins. So how can dunking your feet into clear water do this?
Tanya is hooked up to a Hydro Sana Detox Machine and the water is getting murkier by the minute, there is even a sliver of metal floating in there! We all watched in a sort of fascinated horror as the water got darker and darker until it was almost black. We asked Tanya how she felt and she said she was just fine and relaxed. The machine switched off after half an hour and Tanya was unhooked, dried her feet and felt like she was floating out of the room! Annabelle, Graça’s colleague, was in charge of this treatment and told Tanya that her insomnia was due to two spirits within her, one good and one not good. How did Annabelle even know Tanya has sleeping problems? I will be very interested to hear if her sleep pattern improves after the treatment.

Reiki and healing
We then got onto the subject of Reiki, another method of reducing stress and bringing gentle healing to a body that has lost its balance of life energies, is sick or injured. Reiki originated in Tibet and was rediscovered in the 20th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. Both Graça and Annabelle are skilled in Reiki and have had many successes when using this method of healing. There are so many testimonials for this healing method, that more and more doctors are recommending its use in surgeries and hospitals throughout the world. It certainly seems a better option to me than using chemical pills and tablets to get the same results, even supposing the chemical medicines work.

Mesmerising massage
I spotted a massage table, and I thought to myself, now we’re talking; to my mind there is nothing better than a gentle massage. Oh wait! There are Jade stones sitting by the table – a stone massage! I’ve not experienced this type of massage, but friends have told me it’s fabulous. Graça then explains how Jade is the best type of stone to use and why and I’m impressed, very impressed. She has certainly gone to a lot of trouble and expense to bring the best into her new therapy clinic. However, stone massage with Jade is not the only type of massage on offer; they are able to give from a gentle and soothing massage to a really deep and penetrating one, depending on what you prefer, or what proves necessary for the perfect result.
I continue to poke around and ask as many questions as I can think of to get the feel of this place. Annabelle is French and Graça is Portuguese Angolan (pictured right) and, together, they explain everything in great detail. They are so down to earth and “normal” and yet they have these extraordinary abilities. They work well together and complement each other’s particular skills; that in itself is reassuring.
One man’s story
We leave the clinic area and sit down to snack on some of the delicious dishes set out on the groaning table and, over a glass of wine, I get talking to Yves, Graça’s partner. I have known Yves for quite a few years and he explained to me that, due to the recession, his business was suffering greatly and he had been very despondent. His clients and suppliers were picking up on his stress and, as a result, he was getting even less work.
Then Graça went to town on him! With a combination of Reiki and Reconnection as well as deep massages, she brought back his feelings of wellbeing, his optimism and joy for life once more. He noticed an immediate difference. With both clients and suppliers, his business picked up again, despite the recession, and he has never felt better in his life. I have to say it’s true that when a person is confident, then the world is confident in that person. Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone is a very true adage.
The Tarot Cards
When speaking to Annabelle, I found that she is not only psychic (remember the chat with Tanya about her sleeping problems) but she does TarotCard sessions too. I know I am not alone with wanting to know what the future has in store for me, so I was immediately interested in this aspect of her work. “I don’t actually tell fortunes” she admitted “I read the cards and they tell you how to deal with what is happening in your life, you can then decide on your own future”. Well, I found that a new and novel way to look at “fortune telling” and it’s most probably a more accurate description of what prophesies are really about.
During our conversations, we all agreed that everybody in the whole wide world has a “story” in their lives and, as such, everybody is interesting. Some will gladly share their “story” whilst others hide it from the world, but it’s there. Some tales are sad, some are horrific and some are full of joy. Some people need help to come to terms with their “story”; they may need to release anger, pain, or sorrow, whilst others need help because they are suffering from bad health. I can see that this is where these remedies can be a boon for many people.
I came away with a very positive feeling about Horusisis Clinic and the two ladies who want to help and heal as many people as they can. They are obviously passionate about their work and what they can bring to alleviate pain and suffering. I, for one, am convinced of their dedication and I am sure they will achieve their goal in life.
