The Algarve Cancer Association (AOA) is organising their annual Mamamaratona‘race against cancer’ marathon in Portimão on the 12th October starting at 10am.
With full support from Portimão City Council and the Associação de Atletismo do Algarve, as well as numerous generous sponsors, including many other Parish Councils in the Algarve, they are all working towards the biggest turnout to date. Even the railways (CP) are offering a 50% discount to participants when they show their enrolment form.
As well as raising awareness of this awful disease, The Algarve Cancer Association is desperately trying to build a temporary home for patients undergoing radiotherapy in Faro. This will enable patients from far and wide to be on the spot for their treatment.
So here’s the deal:
Participants can choose from three different routes: an 8 kilometre route which you can walk or run and starts and finishes at the old fishing docks, or a 10 kilometre short marathon or a 21 kilometre full circuit (which is mainly aimed at professional athletes).
Everyone is welcome to take part no matter what age, even the dog can come along (as long as he/she is on a lead and with the owner). However, cyclists, skaters and unsupervised children are not allowed, which makes sense.
Dig out your trainers, get your money ready, pick up a goodie bag and let’s raise some dosh for this wonderful cause.
