I am an “N”: a Nudist, Naturist or Naked as often as I can be.
In other words I am Natural.
Freedom
Maybe I am a child at heart. Every kid ever born into this world will shuck off its clothes as fast as it can. Mothers are horrified to find their little one running around in the noddy at the drop of a hat. Children hate clothes, it’s as simple as that, and the faster they can get them off, the happier they are.
Unlike big people looking at naked bodies; kids don’t see boy or girl, they don’t see fat or thin, they don’t see pretty or ugly, they just see another kid to interact with. You don’t see a child stare, snigger or express any emotion other than the joy of having someone to play with. Show a little girl a full on “boy” dolly – they just see another little baby to cherish, change his nappy and cuddle him to sleep. Little boys who like dolls are not interested whether it be a boy or girl dolly – it is just a toy to play with.
This is just how I feel when I can get my kit off and be free of clothing. I just love the feeling of freedom that nudity gives me. I don’t see people the same way when they are naked as I do when they have clothes on. Clothes make statements; nudity is just that, nothing to hide. A person without clothes on can’t show if they are a bank manager or a pauper, they are just themselves.
Warm and Legal
So, when I go on holiday, I want to get naked and just be myself and see others for themselves. I don’t want to hide behind a facade created by clothes. It’s not so long ago that nudity was frowned upon or even ridiculed or, worse still, illegal. Nowadays that’s not the case, thank goodness, and more and more places are accepting of naturist resorts, beaches and even campsites.
Obviously I want to be warm when I strip off. Although there are now hundreds, if not thousands, of naturist clubs, spas and more all over the world, I decided to check out how Portugal or, more accurately, the Algarve fared as a naturist destination. I figured with 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, it had to be a good place for me. I noticed it also has a Portuguese Federation of Naturism and an Algarve Naturist Club so they are bound to be tolerant. I’m a card carrying naked man, which is a bit difficult without pockets I agree.
Where to stay
I went online and checked out naturist guesthouses and came up with three; The two to the west of the Algarve looked stunning. The one in the east is close to some great naturist beaches.
. Quinta da Vista, Silvesis a beautifully converted old farmhouse and is run by a couple of friendly Brits. They have obviously gone to great lengths to make it as peaceful and relaxing as they can with pool, beautiful gardens, Boules court, sauna, BBQ and an outdoor chess board. They have kept it small and welcoming and it’s open from May through October.
.
.
Casa Amarela, Albufeira is also run by a British couple and has a sauna, hot tub and massages as well as the pool, and gardens. This guesthouse is open all year round and seems just as friendly and relaxing as the first.
ll these guesthouses provide a bar, have spectacular views and are close to Naturist beaches and other main attractions of the region. They are all easy to access from Faro Airport too.
The one guesthouse I found to the east, is Naturist Algarve in Corotelo, just north of Faro airport. This consists of 3 small, self-catering cottages as well as a dining area and bar. There’s also a rather large pool and terraces with sun beds overlooked by the cottages.
Beaches
I discovered there are 3 official naturist beaches along the coast of the Algarve but I found many more that are used by naturists.
Furnas – more than 50% of the beachgoers were naturists
Praia Grande – the west end of the beach is where the naturists are
Caneiros – to the west you find a small cove for naturists
Praia do Camilo, Pinheiros – Steep wooden steps lead to a sheltered cove for naturists.
As well as the above, there’s any number of deserted beaches throughout the coastal areas where naturists sunbathe to their heart’s content. So all I have to do is explore!
Exploring
Apart from unearthing all the fantastic sandy beaches where I can just be my natural self, I wanted to find more to do. So, I checked out what is on offer in the Algarve. Boy oh boy, was I ever surprised at all the activities available there. It would be well worth while becoming a “textile” (somebody who wears clothes) at least for some of the time if it means I can:
Water ski, jet-ski, windsurf, parasail and go deep sea fishing
Go horse riding, rambling, cycling and bird watching
Play golf and tennis or ride quad bikes, go karts and racing cars.
Decisions
Now all I have to do is decide which guesthouse I want to stay in, what time of the year I want to go and for how long I can escape to paradise. I also have to choose just what activities I want to participate in when I get there and what to pack!
So now, in theory, I am a T “Textile”, as I have my thinking cap on...
